DEXA Bone Densitometry

What is DEXA?

Dual-Energy X-Ray Absorptiometry (DEXA) is a quick, safe and painless test to determine if you have osteoporosis or low bone mass. By measuring bone strength, we can help predict fracture risk so that you can start effective preventive therapy with your doctor.

How do I prepare for a DEXA scan?

In advance of your exam, please let the patient representative, radiologist or technologist know if you have had an MRI or CT scan within one week of your scheduled appointment.

Also, if you are pregnant, please tell our patient representative.

A report of your examination results will be provided to your doctor, usually within 24 hours of your test.
